Another Paine to pain half marathon in the books. This year it wasn't so kind to me. Wet weather forced me to slow down quite a bit. My glasses kept fogging up and I had to wipe them frequently in order to see the trail. Also for the first time in 11 years running this race, one of the [race's] most infamous obstacles stung me on my arm. All of that being said I wouldn't give up that experience for anything. The Paine to Pain Half Marathon Trail Race is still my favorite race. Hopefully I will be able to continue to come back and run every year. The most important thing to know is that this is a fantastic race. The course is amazing. I grew up in the area and had no idea that these (semi)contiguous trails existed. You run through relatively dense suburban neighborhoods yet remain on trails virtually the entire way. The course is hard. You're not going to set your half marathon PR. But it's fun. And the race is really well run. I had run NYRR races for decades but basically stopped after P2P has shown me how it's done. Now those NYRR races just feel like noisy spectacles. P2P is about the runners, the course and the volunteers. You will have a great time. — Dadsile via Reddit
I've run it 2-3x and love it. I'd recommend trail shoes but like most said, it's not hugely important. Great race, hilarious RD and a fun finish and unique start with the musket and revolutionary band. Also agree...you won't get a 1/2 PR but you may find yourself signing up early for the following year bc it's a great run.— Often_Lost via Reddit
Winding through the paths of Leatherstocking Trail, Saxon Woods Park, Hutchinson River Trail, Twin Lakes Park, and Nature Study Woods, this single-loop race takes runners through some of the county’s most technically challenging trails. The race may interest history buffs: the starting line is at Thomas Paine’s cottage and the event begins with a shot from a colonial musket.
